8. Boiler insulation mod

Silvia boiler and its pipes come none insulated.
This waste energy and heats up surrounding components.
Adding a silicone sponge (which stands high temperature as 250C/480F) as insulation, helps to better preserve energy and protect other components.

You need to use closed cell Silicone sponge with 1/4" (~6mm) and 1/8" (~3mm) thickness.

tipTip: From a sheet of around 350x220mm (13.8x8.7") you will be able to cut all needed covering parts.

The boiler was wrapped with a 1/4" thick. sheet and another sheet was used for the flange. The boiler top has 2 circular layers of 1/4" thick. that has cuts in it to fit the thermostats, heater contacts and thermocouple wire. Attaching the sponge sheets was done by using standard Nylon cable ties. Here is a drawing that shows the boiler insulation structure.

To help figure out the cutting dimensions, here are some important V3 boiler dimensions:
- boiler diameter is 80.5mm (3.17") it is a little bit conic.
- boiler height is 82.5 mm (3.24") to flange, 77.5 mm (3.05") to surrounding bolts
- boiler flange diameter is ~101 mm (3.98")

Out of the boiler, I also added Silicon sponge to the steam pipe, to the grouphead and to the OPV part.
Adding insulation to the steam pipe reduced the temperature of the cup preheating plate, but this is not a problem since
I always pour hot water to the cups to warm it prior of brewing process.
